The City Beautiful & Beyond: Shopping, Food, and Unforgettable Vibes in Chandigarh & Mohali
Welcome back to gpgblog.com!

After starting our blogging journey in the holy city of Amritsar, it only feels natural to move toward another city that holds a very special place in my heart: Chandigarh.
Having been a frequent traveler to Chandigarh over the years, I have grown to love its unique balance of wide green avenues, clean urban design, and laid-back yet vibrant lifestyle. It’s a city where every sector has its own charm, but for me, a trip here always revolves around three simple pleasures: incredible shopping, rich local food, and taking a quick drive into neighboring Mohali.
Here is my ultimate guide to experiencing Chandigarh and Mohali, combining the best spots to shop, eat, and explore.
1. The Ultimate Shopping Trails: Elante Mall & Sector 17
For me, a trip to Chandigarh is never complete without spending hours exploring its retail hubs. The city offers two distinct shopping atmospheres that complement each other perfectly:
Elante Mall: As one of the largest shopping destinations in Northern India, Elante is my go-to spot for modern retail therapy. Whether it’s browsing through international apparel brands, catching a movie, or dining at high-end eateries like Punjab Grill, Elante delivers an energetic, world-class indoor experience every single time.
Sector 17 Plaza: If Elante represents the city's modern edge, Sector 17 is its historic heart. Strolling through the open-air pedestrian plazas surrounded by Le Corbusier’s iconic architecture brings back a sense of nostalgia. From classic boutiques and traditional clothing stores to local handicraft shops, Sector 17 remains the quintessential Chandigarh shopping experience.
2. Iconic Food Destinations: Dhabas, Street Eats & Cafes
Shopping in Chandigarh naturally works up an appetite, and the Tricity food scene never disappoints. The culinary landscape here seamlessly blends traditional Punjabi flavors with modern cafe culture.
Legendary Dhabas & Punjabi Comfort Food
Pal Dhaba (Sector 28, Chandigarh): A true local landmark. If you ask anyone where to get authentic, rich Paneer Butter Masala or Kadahi Paneer in town, Pal Dhaba is the top recommendation.
Katani Vaishno Dhaba (Mohali & Chandigarh): An absolute institution for vegetarian Punjabi comfort food, known for its rich Dal Makhani, buttery Shahi Paneer, and giant Lachha Parathas.
Classic Street Food & Local Snacks
Sindhi Sweets (Sector 17): A mandatory stop while shopping in Sector 17 for crisp Tikki Chaat, Gol Gappas, and classic North Indian sweets.
Ram Chaat Bhandaar (Sector 34): Famous for serving Gol Gappas with multiple flavored waters (Jeera, Hing, Amrood) alongside crispy Raj Kachoris.
Phase 3B2 Food Hub (Mohali): The ultimate evening hangout spot for street food lovers, packed with stalls serving Kathi Rolls, Soya Chaap, and Momos.
Nostalgic & Modern Cafes
Indian Coffee House (Sector 17): Step back in time at this historic coffee house. Known for its retro vibe, white-uniformed waitstaff, budget-friendly filter coffee, and classic mutton cutlets, it’s a favorite spot to rest your feet mid-shopping.
Nik Baker's (Sector 35 & Elante Mall): Run by a professional pastry chef, this spot is ideal for gourmet coffee, freshly baked cheesecakes, and all-day brunch items.
3. Extending the Journey: A Great Visit to Mohali
Just across the border, Mohali (Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar) is an essential extension of any Chandigarh trip.
Whether you’re driving past the iconic PCA Stadium, taking in the grand architecture of the Baba Banda Singh Bahadur War Memorial (Chapar Chiri), or exploring the buzzing food streets in Phase 3B2 and Phase 5, Mohali brings its own dynamic energy and modern sport culture to the Tricity region. It bridges Chandigarh's calm structure with Punjab's energetic growth.
